    Mitochondria

Mitochondria is one of the most important words you’ll hear when tackling chronic disease and by addressing your mitochondrial needs you can make huge improvements to your health and most importantly your energy levels.

Mitochondria are our energy producers. What they do helps you get out of bed in the morning and if they aren’t working properly or are damaged which tends to be the case with chronic disease then getting out of bed or doing anything would be a million times harder. The damage of these miracle energy producers is most likely the primary cause for extreme fatigue in most chronic disease cases, so supporting your mitochondrial function is absolutely vital in the battle against Lyme and other autoimmune conditions.

Almost every cell in our body contains mitochondria, one cell might have as many as 400 mitochondria, whilst other cells might just have a couple. Mitochondria take things that enter our body like oxygen and glucose and converts them into the most singular important unit of energy ATP. If we were cars then ATP is our petrol. So, if our mitochondria aren’t working how they should be then our petrol runs out and we end up grinding to a halt.

I recommend testing your mitochondrial function which can be done by using live blood analysis and by testing with MTHFR genetics.

If you find that your mitochondrial function has been disrupted and you are low in ATP then there are supplements you can take to support your mitochondria and boost ATP production.

    Mitosynergy

This is a great supplement for anyone suffering with fatigue. Mitosynergy is a form of bioavailable copper. There are two types of copper in our food chain, copper 1 and copper 2. Copper 2 is blue copper, it’s the rusty copper we get on copper pipes and it’s toxic. Meanwhile Copper 1 is the copper we get from consuming organic vegetables and it’s absolutely essential to so many functions within our body. Unsurprisingly in this day and age, many people are low in good copper and high in bad toxic copper. Copper needs to bind to an enzyme called ceruloplasmin in order to do what it’s supposed to do in our bodies, if it doesn’t bind to this enzyme because our ceruloplasmin numbers are low due to depletion through chronic infections and disease then left un-binded, copper can float around in our body causing a toxic build up, triggering all kinds of autoimmune conditions. As an example, there’s been some research to suggest that too much bad copper in the blood could be a trigger for some cases of Alzheimer’s disease.  Bioavailable copper like mitosynergy doesn’t need to bind to ceruloplasmin in order to do its job. Meaning it doesn’t have to go through a chemical process in order for it be used by the mitochondria and people can feel the powerful effects of mitosynergy with in 30 seconds of taking it. Any excess amount of Mitosynergy that our body doesn’t use is secreted within a couple of days of consumption so it doesn’t then float around in our body’s plasma and add to our copper toxicity build up. What’s more it’s antibacterial, so it can kill Lyme bacteria and it helps boost our numbers of ceruloplasmin, the all-important copper carrying enzyme. It can strengthen our immunity, helps build collagen and elastin in the skin and can reverse early greying hair.

Most importantly, Mitosynergy is used by the mitochondria to synthesise that all important ATP so it should increase your energy levels.

This is an American based company but they’ve just started dispatching from the Czech Republic. You must start off with the least concentrated Mitosynergy, because it’s antibacterial, it can kill Lyme therefore it can also trigger a herxheimer reaction so some patients report feeling worse before they feel better. That’s why it’s important to start off on a very low dose and gauge your reaction to it before building up your tolerance with higher doses. We recommend starting with the basic Mitoactivator LDS.

Cq10, L-carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid

If Mitosynergy is too expensive for you and hard to come by then these three supplements combined should also make a huge difference to your energy levels.  Researchers looking into a group of people who inherited a disease called mitochondrial myopathy, which is a defect in the body’s ability to make energy.  They discovered that a combination of these three supplements can make a huge difference to energy levels. L-Carnitine transports fat into the mitochondria where it’s burned for energy, Alpha Lipoic acid assists the CQ10 to penetrate the mitochondria and the Cq10, which is found in every cell in our body, shuttles around energy carrying electrons to maximise ATP production.  A combination of these three supplements should make a huge difference to energy levels for anyone suffering with fatigue.
